They announced the Switch 2, finally
Published on .🔗 Nintendo Switch 2 – First-look trailer.
Some quick thoughts:
- Feature- and offering-wise it's pretty much what I expected: a safe upgrade without risks. Nintendo probably doesn't want to mess with their winning formula.
- Also unsurprising but still worth commending: backwards compatibility both physical and digital. It would have been alienating otherwise.
- Hopefully the bigger size (bigger screen!) means actually comfortable controllers.
- Bigger buttons in the controllers and more space between them is super welcomed. However,
- It doesn't seem like the new controllers have any grips. After having the comfy grips on the Steam Deck it's too bad Switch 2 won't offer anything similar.
- Very curious about what looks to be mouse-like functionality for the controllers.
- The magnetic attachment of the controllers to the console looks great.
- They're going to exhibit the new console in special events across the world, including Amsterdam! Will try to attend.
- Is that a new Mario Kart game, then? It doesn't look that different from MK8 so it's hard to tell.
- Overall I'm not excited yet. Will have to wait for proper game announcements and more details on the hardware.
- I will most likely get it sooner than later anyway (I'll be there day one when the new 3D Mario is out).
