Week 37: Week 37's highlights
Weeknote #37.25, from to .
Published on .This week I signed up for Codeberg and statichost.eu. I will start moving my repositories over from GitHub and if it all goes well with statichost.eu, then I'll move some projects from Netlify as well.
Learning #
- Learned about the
Selectionobject and itsselectAllChildren()method for selecting an element's text. - Learned the intro and "chorus" sections of Dream Theater's The Shadow Man Incident. Keeping those fast triplets consistent is a bit challenging but so rewarding when I pull it off. Gotta improve my picking hand's movement efficiency.
Listening #
- King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard switched all their music catalog on Bandcamp to "Name Your Price". So, I bought a bunch of their albums (even though I already own most of these on vinyl) just to have a more convenient digital version of some of my favourite music. Listened to Omnium Gatherum to mark the occasion.
- Went back to Dream Theater's Parasomnia and really loving it. I'm specially into "The Shadow Man Incident", so much so that I'm learning to play it on guitar and having an absolute blast.
- Still spinning Deftones' private music. Outstanding project.
Watching #
- Continued The Expanse's on Prime Video rewatch: Ep. 8 and 9 of Season 1.
- Continued Ghosts: from episodes 8 to 12 of Season 1 on Netflix.
- Started watching The Bear's Season 4 on Disney+. Went through episodes 1 to 5 which have been really good; the music is always on point (Tangerine Dream's Diamond Diary for that last scene of the premiere was /chef kiss/).
- Watched this week's episode of ALIEN: Earth, "The Fly". Another banger. The feud between the Cyborg and the Synth as well as T Ocellus have become my favourite parts of the show.
- Watched this week's episode of Peacemaker, "Need I Say Door?" in HBO Max, which went by extremely quickly.
- Watched this week's One Piece on Netflix; the animation was a bit choppy but it was filled with great (and sad) moments.
- Finally watched KPop Demon Hunters on Netflix. I completely loved it.
Playing #
- On UFO 50:
- Completed the main campaign in Vainger. A compact, tight metroidvania with a fun, if done-before, core mechanic and a good amount of interesting power-ups. I might go back to it later, to get the cherry. Really liked it.
- Started playing Cyber Owls. The stealth, Metal Gear-like level is the most fun and the one that I keep failing at.
- Continued Valbrace's campaign. Completed Level 5. Loving this game.
- Also played a bit of Magic Garden, Seaside Drive, Campanella, Campanella 2, and Elfazar's Hat.
- On my Playdate, I finished Saturday Edition. Minimal mechanics but a superbly written mystery. I was super invested but also taking it slow because I didn't want it to end, hah. By the end I was obsessed. This is the best sound design I've experience in a game in a long time.
I went from having an OK time using my Playdate only during the day and still struggling to get enough lightning (its biggest flaw is its lack of screen backlight), to playing on my laptop's screen via the official Mirror app.
Moving #
- Took a long walk around our neighbourhood with my wife and mother-in-law.
- Played a few matches of table tennis at the office.
Hanging out #
- Visited NDSM with my wife and mother-in-law as a last outing before my mother-in-law moves to her new place in Spain. We visited De Kunstad at NDSM Loods and then had dinner at Cannibale Royale Du Nord.
Reading #
- Continued reading A City On Mars. Currently into how "company towns" are one of the preferable ways to start a settlement in space. Wild.
Creating #
- Made a single-file web-app to help me create the Links for this website.
