Week 39: found my film of the year & Japanese-style morning exercises
Weeknote #39.25, from September 22 to September 28.
Published on .Learned #
- Learned the word "autarky" which means economic independence.
Listened #
- Listened to the new Nine Inch Nail album, which happens to be the soundtrack for the new TRON: Ares movie. Always a treat to get new NIN music.
- Revisited my favourite metal album from last year, Blood Incantation's Absolute Elsewhere. This brand of extreme metal is generally a bit too extreme for me, but this album absolutely blew me away when it came out. And it still does now.
Watched #
- Finished The Expanse's Season 1.
- Continued The Bear's Season 4; episode 4-6.
- Continued Ghosts' Season 1; episode 14-16.
- Continued Abbot's Elementary Season 4; episode 18.
- The season finale of ALIEN Earth. A great episode but not a great season finale. Still, I look forward to Season 2, if it actually happens.
- This week's Peacemaker, "Ignorance Is Chris". It's finally revealed, and although there were suspicions, the tension and build-up to the reveal was so well done. Next episode is going to be insane.
- This week's One Piece, episode 1144. Wildly stunning animation work on this one. You can really see that they put all their budget on this type of landmark episodes to the detriment of quality for the "less important" ones.
- ⭐ Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another in Filmhallen. It's my film of the year and amongst the decade's best, at least. My full review.
Played #
- New season of Rocket League has started and now there's a 4v4 (Squads) mode and I'm having a blast.
- On UFO 50:
- Even though I really didn't want it to end, I finished the campaign of Valbrace. It's for sure my favourite game from the collection. My short review.
- Also played Magic Garden (managed to save 100 thingies - have to get to 200 to win) and Pingolf (finished 5th in the tournament...).
- ⭐ Started playing Hades II and I'm completely enthralled. I don't think I've even scratched the surface of it and I'm already stunned by everything. I appreciate that while it's built on the same foundations of Hades 1, the weapons and play-style of the new protagonist is different enough that going back to the first one still feels great. A Hell of a Time.
Moved #
- My wife and I started doing the Japanese Rajio Taisou exercises every morning and it's been great. It's a good mix of stretching and light cardio to start the day. Good timing to start with these too, because my Apple Watch told me my cardio activity is too low (but to be fair, I don't wear it all the time!).
