Week 1: End and beginning; ups and downs
Weeknote #1.26, from to .
Published on .The week between years. I did have to work for a couple of days during this week but it otherwise all felt like a temporal limbo.
We had a great New Years Eve party / New Years Day after-party; went to a good friend's apartment nearby Sloterplas, and at 5 minutes to midnight we climbed the stairs to the top floor - the 14th. We made it there just as the clock hit 12 and got to enjoy all the fireworks blasting all over the city from a great vantage point, while eating 12 grapes, clanking with wine, and taking photos and videos with all our close friends. Afterwards, we sat to chill while listening to music selected by each one of us and then we played some party games until 4am. It was a lovely time.
On the first day of the year we received the tragic news of the passing of a family relative in Colombia, which gloomed over the next couple of days.
On top of that, the whole U.S. strikes in Venezuela completely took over our attention and energy.
Listened #
- Between The Buried And Me's The Blue Nowhere.
- Steven Wilson’s The Overview.
- Frost*’s Life In The Wires.
- Blood Incantation's Absolute Elsewhere.
Watched #
- Tokyo Godfathers in LAB111. A fantastic, untraditional Christmas movie. Surreal, fun, and funny. My full review.
- Avatar: Fire and Ash (IMAX 3D) in Pathé Arena. The best one of the trilogy and the only one I'd like to rewatch. Eventually. The last movie of 2025 (and continuing the tradition started with some friends in 2022, of watching the Avatar movie currently in cinemas on the last day of the year). My review.
- Eternity in Filmhallen. The first movie of 2026, and such a great start! Funny, emotional, and even a tad thought-provoking. My review.
- Angel's Egg (4K restoration) in LAB111. I was excited mainly because it's art-directed by Yoshitaka Amano (of Final Fantasy fame). But it was a difficult watch in terms of pacing and concept. My review.
- ⭐ The Fall on MUBI. I feel that if I watch this once more, in a big cinema screen, it might become a top-5 favourite film for me. It's easily, comfortably one of the best-looking films I've ever seen. It's just a joy to look at. And it's a great story too. My full review.
- Strangers Things 5 finale. I was along for the ride, and specially loved the entire epilogue.
- Continued: Community Season 2, Animal Control Season 3.
- Finished: Ghosts Season 3.
- Started: Ghosts Season 4, Dandadan Season 2.
- Re-started: One Piece.
Played #
- ⭐ POCO, a short-but-sweet, great-looking point-and-click adventure. And it's free, which is crazy! I started and finished in one sitting, and ended up loving it. My full review.
Read #
- Finished Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol.
- Started Junji Ito's Uzumaki.
